Only 77 days left… How on earth will you get through this?
Well, for most people, it’s probably less than 50 days, depending which country you are in, how many days you work each week and how much holiday you are planning to take.
That’s not a lot of working days left in this year. And there’s so much to get done!
That doesn’t leave much time to finish all those important projects. Not much time to complete all those company processes, like delivering year-end targets, planning for 2025 and completing talent and performance reviews.
And, certainly, not much time to celebrate, develop your people or improve your team dynamics.
So much to do, so little time. So much clutter… so many priorities, endless tasks, so many deadlines. Mental clutter…
And emotional clutter too. Oh my goodness… so much emotional clutter!
We hear it from almost every leader and team we are working with. That sense of overwhelm that has become normalised.
We’re all consumed by busyness, rather than working on the business.
We are focused on tasks and short-term outcomes, on the need for things to be completed.
It’s exhausting. And frustrating. And unrealistic. And a fallacy.
It’s not a finish line, it’s just the end of another calendar year. We all know there will be another one starting in January.
So, how on earth will you get through this?
Perhaps the bigger and more important question is: how do you want things to be better?
This might sound counterintuitive, but we believe you need to slow down.
Not slowing to a stop. But slowing just enough, for long enough, to take much-needed perspective.
To spend quality time with your team and consider what you’ve already achieved this year, what you are proud of, and what difference you have made. And reflecting on how you have done it, what has worked well, and what hasn’t.
Thinking about how you work as a team, your energy, how you want to feel different and what will help you be better next year.
In our work with leadership teams, we continue to be amazed by how much they get from slowing down.
From investing their energy in the critically important but often overlooked (or often postponed) thinking about how to become a better team – making the shift to be a more cohesive, effective and supportive relationship-driven system, rather than a loose collection of hard-working, but distracted or siloed individuals.
When teams slow down enough, they can see their current reality and patterns. They become aware of the multiple factors impacting their performance, both inside and outside the team.
Then, and only then, can they be intentional. Intentional about the choices they have, what they will do and consequently what they will not do.
And to intentionally identify and create the winning culture which will enable and support the team.
This isn’t a small thing. It’s everything in creating the right conditions for future success.
At Change Oasis, we are supporting many leadership teams right now to slow down for success. If you’d like to discuss how we could help you to do the same, please contact us at hello@changeoasis.com to arrange a complimentary 45-minute Clarity Call.
